Katherine's Effect on Others

Katherine impacted many people during her lifetime and continues to today. She was one of the main reasons the U.S was able to land the first man on the moon. She also made big contributions to getting all early spacecrafts off the ground. Afterwards, women were more respected at NASA. They were allowed into briefings, and welcomed into the Flight Research Division. She integrated the program and made working at NASA a reality for many people. “Girls are capable of doing everything men are capable of doing. Sometimes they have more imagination than men.” said Katherine.

Katherine also made many long term impacts to NASA and society. Today many different types of people work at NASA, and they are judged by their intelligence, not appearance. There are no boundaries or constraints for anyone and that is because of Katherine. Furthermore, she won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is an effect of her hard work. Many people doubted Katherine, but she was not discouraged. She fought for her rights and worked hard to prove herself. People across our nation look back on landing the first man on the moon as a great American achievement. This headline was based off of Katherine’s calculations.  Landing on the moon may not have been done without her. Katherine Johnson inspires people today to stand up for their dreams and what's right.

"I just want to thank you for being such an amazing woman.  Your contributions to this agency, put you among some of the most iconic people in the history of NASA.  People like Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Sally Ride."
